Discover Helsinki visited Goodwin, The Steak House, a popular steak restaurant with branches in Helsinki, Tallinn and Zurich. The Helsinki branch was opened in 2013 and, like all of the other branches, is easily recognisable by the famous ‘Black Angus’ sculpture at the entrance.
Goodwin Steakhouse is the only chain steakhouse of its kind in Finland. It is an American-style, classic steakhouse that focuses on a no-frills menu and prioritises three things – the beef, the wine and the customer.
The Goodwin Steakhouse Experience
A great steakhouse experience is dependent on great beef. Goodwin’s Restaurant Manager Aino explained that their beef only comes from cows bred in the United States and Australia.
Factors that impact on the ultimate quality of the meat, such as breeding conditions, storage and delivery, are rigorously scrutinised. This is how they ensure that only the highest quality cuts of beef end up on the plate. All the steaks on the menu are then prepared in their specialty charcoal furnace.
In addition to the steak, we also found that our experience at Goodwin steakhouse was exceptional. The waitstaff and chef are very attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. If you are unsure of what cut of steak to select, ask to see the meat selection and they will explain each one to you.
Drinks & Menu.
While Goodwin’s core menu is designed to appeal to the real beef-lover, their extensive menu goes well beyond steak. The selection includes Finnish classics like salmon soup alongside vegetarian-friendly meal options.
Additionally, a great steak deserves a great wine as a companion. Their wine selection is carefully chosen by their sommelier, comprising mostly European wines along with several New World wines and a neat selection of liquors and beers.
