Happy birthday Helsinki! June 12th is Helsinki Day, when the City celebrates its founding in 1550 by hosting a series of events across the city, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The annual event includes a range of activities and events that are suitable for all ages.

Here are a few of the events that you can look forward to on Wednesday:
Official opening of Helsinki Day: At City Hall you can hear the Mayor’s speech formally opening the day’s celebrations, while enjoying rhubarb pie along with a traditional morning coffee. DJ Local Al will be providing musical entertainment at the Hall.
Guided Tour of the Parliament Building: Finland’s Parliament building is open on Helsinki Day for all to visit. Tours are conducted in English, Finnish and Swedish starting at 10 a.m and last for around 45 minutes. First come first served!
Free Entry to Sea Life for Children: Sea Life Aquarium is a popular marine exhibit located next to the Linnanmäki Amusement Park in the Alppila Quarter of Helsinki. Kids aged 0 – 14 enter free; normal prices apply to adults.
Park Aerobics 1920s style: Enjoy open-air aerobics at the Carefree Helsinki Exhbition at Villa Hakasalmi with instructors dressed in the fashion of the 1920s. The exhibition continues after June 12th but is free on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Helsinki Bar & Disco Guided Tour: The Helsinki Hotel and Restaurant Museum welcomes you to their day-long party from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Learn about Helsinki’s cafes, restaurants and hotels, and its experience during Prohibition. Bar and disco will be open from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
