Side Step Festival 2020, one of Finland’s main contemporary dance festivals, takes place on January 31 – February 8. The annual festival is organised by the Helsinki based Zodiac – Centre for New Dance.
The festival is being held at the Cable Factory in Ruoholahti and also at Culture Centre Stoa in Itäkeskus.
Side Step 2020 embraces a variety of performances that defy categorisation but deliver on high energy, extravagance and diverse artistic vision. Only two performances on the programme are viewed in the the traditional auditorium format.
The remaining performances on the programme blur the line between the audience and the performers. Side Step Festival 2020 is intended to be “a celebration of multiple ways of inviting the audience to the worlds of the performances“.
Guest artists for 2020 are Nora Chipaumire, Michiel Vandevelde, Ivo Dimchev, artist collective Berstad/Helgebostad/Brun, Matilda Aaltonen & Joel Teixeira Neves and Sorour Darabi.
